5' high Shadow Board with 4x4 posts and 2x4 framework plus 1' Privacy Lattice:

This fence is also known as Good Neighbour style and notice that it looks the same from both sides. Please observe that because the 2 layers of boards are separated by the framework this causes a gap where when you look at the fence on an angle you can see through the boards.

5' high Shadow Solid with 4x4 posts and 2x4 framework:

Note that both sides of the fence do not look the same with the framework showing on one side and the board face showing on the other. If this is upgraded to 6*6 posts then there is enough width in the post to allow the overlapping layers of boards plus an inside and outside layer of framework thus the fence would now look the same on both sides.

This style can be done without the middle brace. These pictures are to represent how the look can change when the bigger post and bigger framework is used.

6' Shadow Board using 4x4 posts and 2x4 framework no T-Top:

This style is often the lowest cost option while still providing the privacy of a wood fence because it does not have the T-Top rail thus it saves 1 additional 2*4 per panel.

This is a very popular choice because it offers the best of privacy with the overlapping boards and the 6' height. It is also good to consider a middle rail because with the taller boards warping and cupping can be more evident.

This takes an already popular style and adds the Scallop on top which serves to add a bit more height plus an attractive decoration. It is also good to consider a middle rail because with the taller board warping and cupping can be more evident.

Because of this upgrade to 6x6 posts then there is enough width in the post to allow the overlapping layers of boards plus an inside and outside layer of framework thus the fence would now look the same on both sides. This is a very popular choice because it offers the best of privacy with the overlapping boards and the 6' height. It is also good to consider a middle rail because with the taller board warping and cupping can be more evident.

It is good to consider this middle rail because with the taller board warping and cupping can be more evident.

Post Replacement:

Not all older fences require a complete replacement. Sometimes a few of the posts may have broken or degraded to a point where the fence is no longer stable. This type of repair will require a new post and sometimes a few extra items like boards or frame rails. We have even replaced the old 4x4 post with a new 6x6 post.
